Actually, a combination between Mr. Parsons and Mr. Duncans patch files did
the trick, spreadlogd is now running fine.

I experience similar segfaults on linux, runnin 2.4.22 kernel with non
executable stack. On other kernel versions it seems to run fine.

If anyone wants the combined patch files let me know...THANKS to all!

I tried with Mr. Duncan's patch, it removed the segfault, but it introduced
another bug. It seems to run select() on the fd representing the logfile to
be written, not the socket.
